The Bank Information Center (BIC) is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organization that aims to empower citizens in developing countries to influence World Bank and other Multilateral Development Bank (MDB) activities in a manner that fosters social justice and ecological sustainability. BIC advocates for greater citizen participation, transparency, and public accountability. The Latin America Program monitors MDB activities in the region and collaborates with local NGOs to push for sustainable development as an alternative to massive infrastructure based integration initiatives being promoted in the region.
The position is 15-20 hours a week and is unpaid. Students are encouraged to apply, especially those studying in relevant fields. Work includes research on specific projects, policies and banks, writing, editing, data entry and occasionally helping with logistics for meetings with Southern partners and Bank staff. Applicants must be proficient (the more the better) in Spanish, as much of the research and writing is conducted in that language, and knowledge of Portuguese is also a plus, although not a necessity.
We are looking for enthusiastic, politically aware individuals with a strong interest in sustainable development and alternatives to the current globalization trends being promoted by Multilateral Development Banks (The World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, etc).
