Internship Opportunity Amazon Alliance

Interns are needed to work on a variety of issues including oil development in Ecuador and Peru, military aid and aerial eradication in Colombia, territorial rights in Bolivia, mining and logging in the Guyana Shield, legislation and international agreements, and multinational corporation accountability, among others. We are looking specifically for an intern to carry out policy research related to "Plan Colombia" and strengthen the information network with Alliance members on this issue. Additional jobs may include preparing articles for a monthly newsletter, updating the Alliance website, aiding with press releases, responding to information requests, and managing the membership database.

The internship offers opportunities to utilize communication and organizational skills while interacting with the media, nonprofit organizations, indigenous leaders, government representatives, and the general public. Prospective interns should be interested in environmental and/or indigenous rights issues, and have some familiarity with the situation in the Amazon region. Knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese is helpful, but is not required.

The Amazon Alliance office is located in downtown Washington, DC, near the South Dupont Circle Metro stop. Internships are open to both undergraduate and graduate students and are unpaid. The schedule is flexible but there will be a minimum time commitment of 15 hours per week for a three month period. Academic credit can be arranged according to university guidelines.
